Eurodubs crew have visited one of the biggest Volkswagen and Audi meetings, known as GTI Treffen Worthersee. This year it was 31st time it was held. The truth is that we attended one day of official event. We were already there from Saturday , May the 12th.
For the first time, we went to Austria before the official event, and from the first day i was clear that it was worth it. We got information that the best cars come one week before or more, and leave before official start of event. Since we wanted to “catch” those interesting cars as well, we arrived little earlier and stayed also one day during event so we would have “whole picture”.
If you wander why wouldn’t people want to attend official event, there is couple reasons… One of them is large crowd during the event. Second reason is that on event you may find cars which have fails, that are more common, comparing to some “projects” seen on Worthersee. People want to stand out!
There is one more reason, maybe the most important for visiting Worthersee before Event. During the Event, the police is more strict regarding height regulations. Before the Event, police checked speed and prevented incidents, but height check started the first day of the Event. A penalty for too low car is substantial, even couple hundred eur. Comparing to that, ticket that we payed for speeding, 25 eur, was just a warning.
If you decide to visit Austria next year couple of days before the Event, you will not see much in Raifnitz. You should go to Velden on the west side of the Lake. THE spot in Velden is Shell gas station.
Next to the Shell gas station, there is a wash and a large parking for which you need to pay entrance if you want to park and represent your “project”. On this spot you will see all the best of Worthersee GTI Treffen, since cars circle around whole day.
If you are just a visitor, without your own “project”, just across the Shell, you will find 2 parking places, payable 5 eur/hour. You may also park in surrounding streets for free, but take care that you park on places where that is permitted.
One more HOT SPOT is Schiefling. In the entrance of this city, you will find BILLA shopping center, and little farther a large parking place. Here, you will find many interesting cars, and unlike Shell, there are no charges for parking, so you may enjoy yourself as long as you wish.
After checking out Schiefling, you may continue in same direction to Pyramid Kugel. This is tower, viewpoint where you will see whole lake and much more. View is magnificent, so if the weather is nice, you will enjoy in the view on Alps.
However, that is not all! There are 2 parking places, with every single place occupied. At one point, we came across 7 Golf 2 Rally and 12 Corrado, parked one next to another. Stunning view, not just for Volkswagen fans, but for all tuned cars fans.
Another spot that shouldn’t be missed is Faaker See. It is the most distant place from Raifnitz, but is definitely worth visiting. We heard about this place too late so we don’t have too many pictures from this location, but we will know better next time. If you like engine roar and burned tires “smell”, this is a place for you.
We presented all larger spots where you can see many interesting cars. However, while driving around, you will pass by some smaller groups, so make sure that your camera is always ready to shoot!
If maybe some of you have visited some other spots and locations worth visiting, let us know so we could visit them next time and share photos here.
So, it is definitely better to go to Worthersee couple of days earlier, you will avoid crowd, easier to drive around, and you will not miss event atmosphere.
